2.6 lakh pilgrims visited Amarnath shrine in 2017: Govt

Government on Wednesday informed the Lower House that the number of Yatries to Amarnath Yatra increased in 2017 as compared to 2016.

This was revealed in a written reply to a query raised by NC MLA from Kangan Mian Altaf.

   

The government in its reply said the number increased from 2,20,490 pilgrims in 2016 to 2,60,003 pilgrims in 2017.

However, the government in its reply informed the House that the number of pilgrims who visited the Amarnath shrine decreased as compared to 2015.

“In 2015, 3,52,771 pilgrims had visited the Amarnath shrine,” the government in its reply said. 

The government reply revealed that 174000 pilgrims attended out-patients departments under the jurisdiction of director health services Kashmir in the year 2015 while as 12400 in 2016 and 197000 attended the OPD in 2017.

“14686 pilgrims were admitted in indoor patient departments in Kashmir division in 2015 while as 8651 and 16984 patients were admitted in 2016 and 2017,” the reply reads.

The government reply however states that around 8125 pilgrims were injured in Kashmir  during Yatra trek increased in 2017 while as the number was only  6348 in 2016.
