Srinagar, Nov 23: President Kovind on Tuesday presented Shaurya Chakra to senior Indian Police Service (IPS) officer and DIG NIA, Amit Kumar.
“He showed exceptional leadership qualities, raw grit and moral courage risking his own life to secure his troops as well as the local populace during an operation,” read a tweet by the President of India.

Kumar, who is currently posted as DIG NIA, received a gunshot wound in an encounter with the militants in Pinglina village of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district in February 2019.
Four Army personnel, a civilian and two Jaish-e-Mohammed militants were killed in the encounter.
