Businessmen community of Kashmir has sought restoration of broadband service to pay their Goods and Services Tax (GST).
As GST return filings are mandatory for registeredbusinesses, the delay in filing returns has repercussions leading to blockingof e-way bills as a result of which the businesses can’t import or export anygoods from the Valley.
“It is a peculiar situation as on one hand government isasking us to file GST returns but at the same time internet access to us isbeing denied,” said media-Incharge of Kashmir Economic Alliance, Farhan Kitab.
“Government should facilitate filing of GST returns byresuming at least broadband services to the business establishments. If theycan’t even do that, then government must open circle wise internet kiosks atCommercial Taxes official where businessmen could file GST returns and alsogenerate e-way bills, “he said.
It is pertinent to mention that government of Union Territoryof Jammu and Kashmir has itself admitted that there has been a dip in GSTreturns by 40 percent and at the same time asked traders to approach theirconcerned Deputy Commissioner’s office from they could file GST returns.
However, several businessmen complained that there are notadequate facilities available at the concerned DC offices in Kashmir for filingGST returns.
