Govt committed to revive past glory of saffron sector: Dir Agri

Pulwama, Nov 5: Director Agriculture Kashmir, Chowdhary Muhammad Iqbal on Friday said that the agriculture department is committed to revive the past glory of the saffron sector and National Saffron Mission has helped a lot.

He said the department is working to increase the reach of this most expensive spice to the newer areas, markets and to showcase it to the national and international marketing platforms. Director said this during the review meeting held in district Pulwama.

   

He asked the concerned officers and the officials of the department to work in a cordial and coordinated atmosphere with the saffron growers and bring all the latest global interventions in this sector to the farmer’s field so that this unique spice could attract more and more youth of the valley towards it.

Earlier, the Director visited Tahab and inspected recently laid micro sprinkle irrigation facilities and fields of progressive vegetable growers.

Director Agriculture Kashmir held a meeting of officers of district Pulwama to review the progress on the implementation of various central sponsored schemes in the district.

The meeting was informed in detail about different schemes including National Mission on Saffron, Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojna, National Mission for Sustainable Agriculture, National Mission of Agriculture Extension and Technology, National Food Security Mission, Soil Health Card Scheme, Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana, Pradhan Mantri Krishi Senchayee Yojana.
