Restore Art 370 if you want to ‘keep Kashmir’: Mehbooba to Centre

Ramban: Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president and former Chief Minister Kashmir Mehbooba Mufti asked the Centre to restore Article 370 and resolve the Kashmir issue if it wants to “keep Kashmir”, saying people want return of “our identity and honour” and that too with interest.

Addressing a public rally at Batoo Neel area of Ramban district on Wednesday,

Mehbooba described the abrogation of Article 370 “an earthquake”.

Mufti said she was visiting Ramban to make people aware about the current situation in Kashmir, “especially innocent civilian killings”.

Mufti said she was shocked at the recent “civilian killings in Hyderpora among whom one was from district Ramban”. Mufti said she wanted to “garner the support of the public to fight against the central government for restoring Jammu and Kashmir’s special status which she claimed was snatched illegally on August 5, 2019.

Mufti condemned “recent killing of three civilians in Hyderpora Srinagar encounter” and said that only after holding protests and running from pillar to post, the families of the slain were able to get bodies of two civilians in Srinagar. Mufti said body of the third person killed, Muhammad Amir Magarey should also be returned to his family.

“With the active support of the general public we vow to continue to struggle to get the erstwhile Jammu Kashmir’s special status restored” Mufti said.

Other party leaders who spoke on the occasion were General secretary PDP Mehboob Beigh, District president Javid Ahmed Manhas , Imtayaz Ahmed Shan, Showket Javid Daing, Choudary Talib Hussain, Abdul Aziz Malik, Bahar Ahmed Runyal, Tariq Saleem and Muhammad Ayoub Naik.
