J&K Bank files Rs 60 cr defamation suit

The court of additional district judge Srinagar Tuesdayrestrained a person from “publishing or causing to publish any defamatorymaterial against the J&K Bank on print, electronic or social media”.

The bank has filed a defamation suit against one SajadRasool son of Ghulam Rasool, a resident of 231 Raithan, Khansahib Budgam (atpresent video volunteers, airport road Hyderpora Srinagar) alleging that thedefendant was “defaming the plaintiff bank through print and social media”.

   

The bank in its suit urged the court to restrain thedefendant permanently from publishing or getting published anyarticle/statement through his agents/representatives or posting any material onprint/electronic/social media against the bank which is defamatory incharacter.

The bank has pleaded in the suit that Rasool “published apost on the FB page containing defamatory statement against the bank and itsemployees.

“Following this, a notice was issued to him asking him tosubmit unconditional apology. However he did not express any regret for thedefamatory post. This constrained the Bank to resort to legal recourse.”

The court in its order said, “…non-applicant, his agents orany other persons claiming through him are temporarily restrained  from publishing any defamatory or causing topublish any defamatory material on print, electronic or social media or addressany defamatory communication either orally or in writing which has the effectto defame or tend to defame the Bank and/or its employees.”
