Road dividers without reflectors causing accidents in Baramulla

In absence of reflectors, the road dividers in Baramulla are becoming a cause of accidents on the highway for the past few years.

The locals here have urged the Baramulla administration to install reflectors on the dividers and at various crossing points so that mishaps are avoided.

To ease and streamline the vehicular traffic, the Baramulla administration had built road dividers on several roads including Tehsil Road and Main Chowk Road.

However, these road dividers have caused several mishaps.

Most of these accidents occurred as the vehicles smashed with the road dividers due to low visibility or the absence of streetlights.

Scores of people suffered injuries in these accidents.

Fayaz Ahmad, a resident of Shopian, who during his recent visit to Baramulla suffered an injury after his vehicle smashed with a road divider said, “I reached Baramulla town at about 6 pm on Tuesday. Due to complete darkness, my vehicle smashed with the road divider at Nanak Bawan. I was injured in the accident while my vehicle was damaged.”

The locals here have urged the authorities to install reflectors on the road dividers so that mishaps are avoided.

“The people coming from other parts of Kashmir to Baramulla often become a victim of the administration’s apathy. As they are not well-versed with the physical features of the town, they often land in trouble,” said Muhammad Aslam, a resident of Baramulla town.
