Rajouri: The main road from Kalakote to Siot via Solki is in dilapidated condition. Locals of the area have called for immediate repair of this road and also to built a two lane road to ease the journey of thousands of people who travel over it on daily basis.
This road is the main alternate road to Jammu- Rajouri-Poonch national highway and most of people follow this road to travel between Jammu & Rajouri amid ongoing upgradition work on highway due to which highway stretch between Rajouri & Nowshera is in bad condition. The road’s half stretch is under control of Public Works Department and half other in control of Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojna.
It also connects around on dozen villages of Kalakote as well as Siot tehsils in the district whereas over one dozen other link roads start from this road.
The Kalakote Solki Siot road is under dilapidated condition with people have requested J&K Govt to take up necessary steps to repair the road immediately and also to formulate a new project to upgrade it as a two lane road.
“Most of the people now move from Jammu to Rajouri or vice versa from this road instead of following Rajouri to Nowshera highway stretch,” said a local resident Sahil Sharma. He said that proper condition of this important road is very much required to ease the journey period.
Mohammad Umar on the other hand said that big potholes, loosened surface and damaged drains put commuters to trouble while travelling on this road.
“We request government to take up this road as an important stretch and to upgrade it on two lane dimensions,” said Umar.
People from Kalakote area in the other hand said that local population wants this road to be handed over to Border Roads Organisation.
“We want this road be taken over by BRO & to make a two lane road under the control of BRO,” said Sahil Sharma from Kalakote.He said that locals held dozens of protests with this demand but no on listened to it. On being contacted, a Govt official said that the matter related to this road is already in knowledge of Govt administration & necessary steps are being taken.
