Srinagar, Nov 8: On World Radiology Day, the Department of Diagnostic and Interventional Radiology, Government Medical College (GMC) Srinagar celebrated the 12th World Radiology Day on this year’s theme ‘Radiology: Illuminating health, inspiring care, shaping future’.
A statement of GMC issued here said that the faculty and students from various medical colleges of J&K participated in the event.
Principal and Dean, GMC Srinagar, Prof Masood Tanvir complimented the organisers underscored the importance of radiologists in patient care management and expressed hope that the deliberations and lectures of the event would benefit the participants.
“Radiologists are critical not only for diagnosis of diseases but also for treating various diseases using minimally invasive interventional procedures and thus help save patient lives,” he said.
Organising chairperson and Head of the Department Diagnostics and Interventional Radiology, GMC Srinagar, Prof Majid Jahangir in his welcome address paid rich tributes to the chief guest Prof Rafiq Ahmad Pampori for his contribution and tireless efforts in reviving the college after all its equipment got wiped out in the deluge of 2014.
“Under his dynamic leadership, GMC witnessed remarkable development in all spheres,” he said.
Prof Jahangir also highlighted the need to develop various radiological subspecialties and thanked Principal GMC Prof Tanvir for helping the department kick-start neuro-vascular interventions.
During the event, numerous scientific sessions were conducted which included a live demonstration of functional MRI, 3D USG-based navigational biopsy and fusion imaging.
HOD Radio Diagnosis of Imaging, SKIMS, Prof Feroze Shaheen and Organising Secretary, Prof Shabir Ahmad also spoke on the occasion.
The event concluded with a valedictory function in which guests and participants were felicitated.
Dr Shafiya Ashraf presented the vote of thanks.
