Baramulla, Feb 2: Continuing its efforts to eradicate the menace of drugs from the society, Police have arrested a drug peddler in Baramulla and recovered contraband substances from his possession.
A police party of Police Post Wussan headed by Incharge PP Wussan at a checkpoint established at Sultanpora, intercepted a person identified as Shabir Ahmad Malla resident of Sultanpora. During the search, 105 grams of contraband charas-like substances was recovered from his possession. He has been arrested and shifted to PS Pattan where he remains in custody. Accordingly, a case under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Pattan and investigations have been initiated.
Moreover, Baramulla Police have registered 24 cases under NDPS act and arrested 39 drug peddlers including 3 hard-core drug peddlers who have been booked under PIT NDPS PSA in Baramulla district during the month of January. Police have also recovered contraband substances worth lakhs (value of contraband in black market).
“Community members are requested to come forward with any information regarding drug peddling in their neighbourhood. Persons found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law. Our consistent actions against drug peddlers should reassure the community members that we are making efforts to keep our society free from the scourge of drug menace,” police said.
