2 dead in Ramban accident

Ramban, Mar 5:  In yet another road accident, two persons were killed when the vehicle they were travelling in, fell into a deep gorge while negotiating a curve at Battery Chasma area of Ramban on Srinagar Jammu National Highway on Tuesday.

Officials said, “Only two persons were on board when this accident happened during the intervening night of March 4 and 5.”

   

“The accident occurred when an ill-fated cab, (JK14 9874) was on its way to Srinagar from Sangaldan. The vehicle went out of control of its driver, while negotiating a curve near Battery Chasma and fell into a several hundred feet deep gorge around 12.30 am,” police officials said.

They said that on getting information, joint rescue teams of police, SDRF and Quick Response Teams (QRTs) reached the spot and launched a rescue operation to locate the occupants of vehicles in the deep gorge.

Rescue teams after hectic efforts retrieved two critically injured persons from the gorge and shifted them to District Hospital Ramban where both persons were declared dead by the doctors.

Police identified the deceased as Hakam Din (25), son of Abdul Rehman and Tariq Ahmad (32), son of Abdul Rashid, both residents of village Dalwa, Sangaldan of Sub Division Gool of Ramban district.

Station House Officer (SHO) Ramban, Vijay Kotwal said after conducting postmortem and other legal formalities, the bodies of the deceased persons were handed over to legal heirs for last rites.

He said a case under relevant sections of law was registered at the Police Station for further investigations.

Meanwhile, the last rites of both the deceased persons were performed at their native village Dalwa, Sangaldan in which hundreds of people participated.

Earlier on March 4, four persons were killed and three others were injured in Ukhral tehsil of Ramban district when the vehicle, they were travelling in, fell into a gorge, due to slippery road conditions.
