Traffic movement disrupted in Ramban

Ramban, July 7: Vehicular traffic movement was disrupted for a few hours due to the falling of a huge tree on the road at Peera and to overturning of a loaded truck in the middle of the road in the Maroog area of Ramban on Srinagar- Jammu National Highway on Sunday afternoon.

Traffic officials said Sunday afternoon 3.45 pm, both sides of traffic was halted on National Highway following a loaded truck turning turtle in the middle of the road in the Maroog area between Ramban and Ramsu.

   

They said soon after the accident police, traffic police officers and officials reached the spot, unloaded the truck and removed it from the road. Officials further said a huge tree uprooted and fell on the National Highway passing through the Peera area was also removed with the help of JCB machines.

They said traffic resumed at both places at 5. 30 pm.

Earlier during the day traffic authorities said Srinagar Jammu National Highway remained open for two-way traffic of light medium vehicles, and one-way traffic of heavy vehicles for Jammu on Sunday however they said traffic movement remained slow due to the breakdown of ten heavy vehicles due to single-lane road stretches at Dalwass, Mehar Cafeteria, and between Maroog and Kishtwar Pathar areas of Ramban.

Traffic officials monitoring traffic regulations said National Highway 44 remains open for two-way traffic of light medium vehicles and one-way traffic of Heavy vehicles for Jammu.

Meanwhile, traffic authorities said, subject to fair weather and good road conditions, light-medium vehicles carrying Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra pilgrims would be allowed to ply on either side of NH-44 on Monday.

They said heavy vehicles would be allowed to ply towards Kashmir from Udhampur on Monday.

Traffic authorities once again advised passenger vehicle operators, and commuters not to undertake journeys on National Highway 44, during the night hours due to apprehensions of shooting stones between Ramban and Banihal sectors.
