Srinagar, Mar 22: A policeman from Kupwara district wounded in a “brief shootout” with militants in Zoonimar area of Srinagar on Tuesday succumbed at SKIMS Soura this afternoon, a report said.
Quoting a top police officer, news agency GNS reported that constable Aamir Hussian received grievous bullet injuries in upper parts of body including neck. “Even though doctors tried their best and revived him for several minutes, he passed away,” the officer said. A senior doctor at the hospital too confirmed the cop’s death to GNS.
The police officer said that a militant was also injured in the shootout and “probably has escaped from the spot”. The whole area was cordoned off to nab the fleeing militant(s).
The shootout took place at arpit 2:30 today in the area. A police spokesman also confirmed the cop’s killing while expressing sympathy with his family.
