Srinagar, June 16: A local militant was killed in an encounter with security forces in Nowgam Srinagar on Wednesday, police said.
The slain militant has been identified as Uzair Ashraf Dar resident of Wandina Melhoora, district Shopian. The encounter broke out after columns of police, army and CRPF cordoned Wagoora Nowgam on the city outskirts last night. “During the search operation as the presence of the militant got ascertained he was given an opportunity to surrender, however he fired indiscriminately upon the joint search party, which was retaliated leading to an encounter,” police said.
In the ensuing encounter, police said one militant was killed and his body was retrieved from the site of the encounter. “He has been identified as Uzair Ashraf Dar resident of Wandina Melhoora, Shopian,” police said. “As per our records, he was part of groups involved in many militant crime cases including attacks on security forces. He was linked with the militant outfit LeT.”
