Jammu, June 7: BJP today sought protection and adequate security to the elected Panchayat, Block Development Council and District Development Council, members of Kashmir Valley in the wake of recent killing of a Municipal Councillor in Tral, South Kashmir in Pulwama District.
While taking with the reporters Ravinder Raina, president J&K unit of BJP said “We had a detailed discussion on the security situation following the recent killing of BJP leader and Municipal Councillor Rakesh Pandita in Tral (Pulwama) Kashmir who was killed in a militant attack.There is a concern for security among the elected Panches, Sarpanch, BDC and DDC members in the Valley.”
Downplaying a question on rumours about possible elections, he replied that “Being a political party, we will welcome whatever decision is taken by the Election Commission of India.” Referring to the rumours on social media regarding deployment of security forces, he said: “The deployment of forces is a security related issue which should not be talked about being concerning national security.”
He said that: “They want that the limited pilgrimage should be permitted for Amarnath Yatra.” He declined to comment on rumors on social media about statehood to Jammu as a separate State while terming it baseless.
A senior leader of BJP and member of Core Group told Greater Kashmir that “we have decided to meet DGP Dilbag Singh and seek security for Panchayat, BDC and DDC members in Kashmir.”
