121 govt schools without fencing in Langate constituency

As many as 121 government primary and upper primary schools are without fencing in Langate constituency.

This was informed by the minister for education in his a written reply to a query of independent legislator Er Abdul Rasheed during the question hour of the ongoing budget session.

   

Besides, the government informed the house that work on 17 school buildings damaged during past years was not taken up till date.

The reply exposed the “lethargic” approach of the government towards providing proper accommodation to the school going children.

The damaged school buildings include a building of Gujarnar upper primary schools which was completely damaged in March 2016 due to the land sliding.

The lower House was also informed that 18 government primary and upper primary schools were functioning from rented accommodation in two zones-Langate and Mawar zone respectively.

The schools continue to function in rented accommodation despite merger of around 2400 schools from past three years under rationalization process.

As per the written reply, most of the government primary and upper primary schools in Langate constituency have failed to increase the enrollment of students above 20 or 30.

An official said most of the schools lack basic facilities of toilet, drinking water and benches for students due to which parents prefer to admit their wards in private schools even if they are located at distant places. 

“Parents their wards in to private schools of Sopore and Baramulla because schools here are not of standard,” the official said. The government reply states that most of the upper primary schools in Langate zones have zero enrollments in class 7th and 8th.
