Women Reservation Bill: Speakers call for its passage

A daylong event was held at Chawalgam Rest House in district Kulgam today to discuss the Women Reservation Bill which is pending in the parliament for passage.

CPI (M) leader M Y Tarigami, Director Centre for Social Research, Dr. Ranjana Kumari, National Programme Head WRB, Archana Jha were present at the event.

   

The programme was aimed to press the demand for passage of WRB. Locals from Kulgam participated in the event.

Dr Kumari said, “Government of India must pass the bill at the earliest, it is now or never situation for us”.

Tarigami in his address said: “The bill is pending in the parliament for last 22 years though the political bosses at the centre are swearing by women empowerment”.

According to the national alliance for Women’s Reservation Bill, a network of more than 1600 women’s organizations, the current BJP led government at the centre has the majority of 366 seats out 543 in the lower house of the parliament, which is sufficient to fulfil the BJP’s election manifesto promise in this regard.
