Karnah shuts on 3rd day seeking tunnel at Sadhana

Normal life was affected due to protests held in tehsil Karnah of district Kupwara for the third consecutive day on Tuesday.

Thousands of protestors took to streets on Tuesday to urge the government to take up the construction of tunnel across Sadhana pass immediately.

   

The angry protestors were holding placards and banners which read slogans like “either construct tunnel or leave us to move to the other side of Kashmir,” “Construct tunnel to save Karnah,”

“Our blood is not cheap.”

Protests erupted in this part of the valley after a vehicle was hit by an avalanche and swept away resulting in the death of 11 persons including five women and a child at Sadhana Pass on Friday.

The deputy commissioner Kupwara along with senior superintendent of police Kupwara on Tuesday arrived at Tangdar late afternoon to pacify the agitating protestors who were reluctant to call off strike. The locals were persuaded by the district authorities to call off the strike till 25th January with the assurance that their demand has already been forwarded to the government for consideration.
