While hailing the SAC decision regarding extension of date for second installment under the amnesty scheme for settlement of tax arrears under old regime, Kashmir Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) on Saturday demanded that the last date be extended to July 31.

Juniorvice president KCCI, AM Mir while appreciated the SAC decision said given thepresent stressed condition of dealers needed to be assessed. “The firstinstallment having being deposited in December by around two thousand dealersbut not even half of them were in a position to deposit the second installmentin January. This clearly demonstrates the incapacity of dealers, even thoughwilling, to settle their outstanding taxes,” Mir said.

Beingaware of this situation the KCCI requested that the date of submission ofsecond installment be extended upto July 31.

“TheSAC has in its wisdom decided to extend it only upto March 31. We still believethat this needs to be extended to July 31 as the financial position of dealersis unlikely to improve in March, because of the lean winter season anddisturbed situation in the valley,” Mir said.

A KCCI spokesman also thanked Advisor to theGovernor, KK Sharma, chief secretary BVR Subrahmanyam, principal secretaryindustries Navin Kumar Choudhary, principal secretary finance Arun Kumar Mehta, and commissioner commercial taxes PK Bhat.
