Sleuths of excise department Wednesday foiled tax evasionbid by a goods carrier here at Lakhanpur toll post by resorting to wrongdeclaration of the merchandise.
According to an official spokesperson, a team led byinspector Harish Chander and sub-inspector Raghunandan Mishra subjected the vehiclebearing registration No PB08BL-4482 to physical check as a part of ongoingenforcement drive against Tax evaders. The vehicle was laden with goodsdeclared as ‘Pan Masala’ but on checking the goods were found to be Tobaccoweighing 3800 Kg. Due cognizance of this wrong declaration aimed at to evadetoll was taken and penalty amounting to Rs 1.67 lakh was imposed .
