A traders’ body associated with the cross-LoC trade on Monday staged a protest in Srinagar to demand resumption of the trade between parts of divided Kashmir.
Scores of traders affiliated with Salamabad cross-LoC traders Union assembled at Park in Srinagar to demand resumption of the trade which was suspended on April 19 by the Union Home Ministry.
The protesters carried placards with messages like ‘We Want Justice’, ‘Trade chalao hamara karobar lotao’ and ‘resume trade, don’t play with our fate’.
Union Home Ministry last week suspended, with immediate effect, trade across the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir, saying it was being used by “unscrupulous and anti-national elements” for sneaking in hawala money and weapons from across the border.
Traders and politicians in Kashmir have criticised the government over the sudden suspension of the trade.
