11 dead, several injured as minibus rolls down into gorge in J&K’s Doda

Bhadarwah Oct 28: Eleven passengers travelling in a minibus including its driver were killed and 15 others were injured after the vehicle fell into a deep gorge on Batote – Kishtwar highway in Jammu and Kashmir’s Doda district on Thursday morning, officials said.

An official told Greater Kashmir that the minibus bearing registration number JK-17 4021 was on its way from Thathri to Doda, when the driver lost control on the steering near Soi-Gwari- 6 km ahead of Pul Doda after which the bus fell downhill on the banks of Chenab River.

   

Later, locals, Police, Army, SDRF and other volunteers immediately rushed to the spot and shifted the injured to Associate Hospital GMC Doda, of which 11 of them have died including the driver, Medical Superintendent Associate Hospital GMC Doda Dr Yudhvir Singh td Greater Kashmir.

Fifteen other passengers are undergoing treatment at the hospital, the MS added.

The deceased have been identified as Ghulam Hussain Shah, 60, son of Mohammed Maqbool Shah, his son Shabbir Ahmed, 30, residents of Bharote Mohala, Rhitik Sharma, 19, son of Lekh Raj of Jhateli, Jammal Din, 23, son of Lal din of Bakhana Mohala Mohd Latief, 65, son of Mohd Ramzan of Bharoa Bhaderwah, Annari Devi, 55, wife of Swami Raj of Sisol Bharshalla, Bhadur Singh, 65, son of Hari Singh of Shirdhani Bhella, Santosh Kumar, 22, son of Somnath, Rajesh Kumar, 24, son of Bhodi Singh of Parnote of Mohala Somnath besides two unidentified bodies.

Of the fifteen injured, six were airlifted to Jammu. They are Ramesh Kumar, 27, Monika Devi, 24, Santhosha Devi, 22, Babur, 25, Pervaiz Ahmed, 32, Ponam Devi, 22.

The rest are Sanjay Kumar, 18, Naveen Akhtar, 45, Rohit Sharma, 21, Neetu Devi, 17, Vikram Singh, 22, Ashok Sharma, 22, Santosh Kumar, 22, Arif Hussain, 21 and Savita Devi, 45.

Meanwhile, J&K Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha, who expressed condolence with the families of accident victims, said the government will ensure treatment of injured in the mishap.

The LG announced Rs 2 lakh to next of min (NoKs) of deceased from the LG’s discretionary fund beskdes Rs 1 lakh from Road Victim Fund as immediate relief.

“I’m monitoring situation&every possible assistance to grieving families will be extended, ” the LG wrote in tweet.
