Ramban, Mar 1: Driver of an oil tanker was killed in a road accident at Monkey Morh area of Battery Chasma on Srinagar- Jammu National Highway today.
He was charred to death as his vehicle caught fire during the accident. Police sources said a rashly driven oil tanker bearing registration number JK02BV-4584 was on its way to Srinagar from Jammu went. The vehicle out of control of its driver at Monkey Morh and rolled down into 1500 feet deep gorge, Bisleri Nallah.
The tanker was carrying high-speed diesel and petrol also caught fire. Bushes all along the steep slope also caught fire while the chambers of the tanker had submerged in Bisleri Nallah.
On getting information Police, SDRF, Fire and Emergency Services and local volunteers immediately reached the spot and launched a search operation to trace out the occupants of the vehicle.
The rescue teams after hectic efforts retrieved a charred body from the gorge on the embankments of Bisleri Nallah and shifted it to the mortuary of District Hospital Ramban for identification.
Later Police identified the deceased driver as Pintu Kumar, 30 , son of Devi Ditta resident of Bachyal Paryal Jammu. SHO Police Station Ramban, Inspector Vijay Kotwal confirmed the report and said after conducting postmortem and other legal formalities at the District Hospital the dead body of the deceased driver was handed over to legal heirs for last rites.
A case FIR No 46 of 2024 under section 279/304-A IPC was registered at Police Station Ramban for further investigations.
