Minor dies after falling into pond in J&K’s Banihal

Banihal, Nov 18: A minor boy aged about two-and-half-years died after drowning in a small water pond near his house in Chapnari area of Banihal in J&K’s Ramban district, officials said.

Sumit Singh, son of Bhadur Singh, a resident of Chapnari village four kilometres from Banihal, was playing outside his house when he fell into a small pond while trying to draw some water with mug from it this morning.

   

His sisters were inside the house while his father had left for Srinagar with his truck when the accident took place, a relative said.

The matter came to the notice of his sisters first and they informed their mother but the boy was dead till then, he added.

The screams from the locality attracted the attention of the villagers and the child was rushed to the emergency hospital Banihal where doctors declared him brought dead, a source said. The last rites of the child were performed on Thursday afternoon.

Hearing the news of this incident, a wave of grief and sorrow spread in the whole area and hundreds of people reached the house of the deceased child for condolence.
