Ramban villages face frequent power cuts

Ramban, June 10: Various villages of Ramban for the past few days have been witnessing unscheduled power cuts in addition to the scheduled ones.

The consumers of the Power department Sub Division Ramban alleged that on one hand the department has in an arbitrary manner enhanced power tariff without taking into confidence the consumers, on the other hand they were being made to suffer by resorting to unscheduled power cuts.

They described it as the “worst type of highhandedness” and “double standards” of the department.

“The people living in rural areas of Ramban are being treated like second-class citizens by the Power Development Department,” said the village representative of GandhariDigdool Kanga Seri Maroogpanchayats.

The representative complained that it had become a routine affair for the department, especially the Electric Maintenance Sub Division Ramban to snap electric supply to rural areas whenever a minor snag develops in the distribution system.

“The field staff of the department does not restore power supply for hours together after snapping the links of transmission,” the representative said.

A resident of Maroog, Fareed Ahmed said that against the scheduled power cuts announced by the department, they face unscheduled power cuts too.

The inhabitants of rural areas of Ramban have appealed the Executive Engineer PDD R&E (Maintenance) Division Batote to look into the public grievances so that the consumers of the rural areas do not suffer.
