Srinagar, Aug 08: A vital road stretch at Burzahama, connecting dozens of Hazratbal outskirts areas, is in shambles in the absence of repairs.
The locals said that road has caved-in near the receiving station Burzahama and is dotted with potholes posing risk of accidents.
The locals said that due to lack of drainage, overflowing water from a nearby Hand pump inundated the road and causing extensive damage to it. Although the leaking hand pump leak has been fixed, the damaged road has been left unattended.
“In addition to the issue, there is no drainage on the road, and during rains the whole road gets waterlogged. There are major potholes on the road and it gets difficult for commuters to navigate,” said Altaf Ahmad, a commuter.
The locals said that recently, following continuous negligence, the locals tried to fill the potholes themselves, but the road again caved in.
“Around a dozen localities use the road as the main link to the city centre, and the issue is creating inconvenience for them. A few months back, we tried to fix it on our own, but unless it is properly blacktopped, we will continue to suffer,” said a local.
The locals said that the dilapidated road causes major traffic jams during peak hours, which creates major inconvenience for commuters.
“Amid long dry spell, the road is also dusty, and we are having health concerns due to the issue. Thousands of locals from these areas are suffering due to the issue,” they said.
Residents of these areas appealed to authorities to fix the road without delay so that they would not have to suffer.
