Dilapidated roads at Zaina Kadal give tough time to commuters

Srinagar: Commuters have expressed concern over dilapidated roads at Zaina Kadal area of Downtown here.

The roads at Pathar Masjid, Dalal Mohalla, and adjoining areas of Zaina Kadal are in dilapidated condition hampering smooth vehicular movement. The residents said these important roads lead to SMHS hospital and hamper movement of ambulances and this can be detrimental for critical patients.

Greater Kashmir received many complaints from residents and commuters about the issue. They said that these roads are in shambles and have turned into the worst post-drainage projects in the area.

“We are facing a tough time while commuting from this area. These roads have become a major reason for traffic jams as well,” said Sajad Ahmad, a local.

The residents said that after completion of drainage and other projects, roads in the area have been left in bad shape. “These roads are also taking a toll on our vehicles and health too. The roads are full of dust in the dry season, and during downpour turn into cesspools. We want authorities to take up the black topping of the road as soon as possible,” said Javaid Ahmad, another local.

The commuters said that the issue is hampering vehicular movement and causing traffic gridlocks in the area.

“Due to the digging of roads following drainage work, there are huge potholes in the roads, which are creating other issues. The roads lead to SMHS Hospital and Downtown areas,” locals added.

Officials from Srinagar City roads wing said as road projects have been taken up in various localities of Downtown, these areas will be covered soon.
