Introduction of e-buses in Srinagar city and on some other routes beyond Srinagar, has been widely hailed. Subsequently, the service became very popular and most people preferred traveling in these buses. The preference continues even now. More and more people want to travel in the e-buses and that is why sometimes there is over-loading also.
These buses do not have dedicated stops for dropping or picking up the passengers. Since the e-buses are large in size their frequent stopping on roads affects the traffic flow. Sometimes jamming also occurs. As more buses will be added on the demand of commuters, lack of dedicated stops will become a big problem from traffic point of view. The early the dedicated bus stops are made available the best. The concerned authorities have assured that a process will be set into motion to have these stops for the e-buses.
It is not that only e-buses lack stops even the private buses and cabs plying on various routes do not have dedicated stops. Such vehicles also cause traffic jamming. Private buses wait for long for the passengers on roads thus causing jamming. Their problem too must be solved. Such vehicles too must have proper stops, where the passengers are picked up or dropped. Sudden stopping of the buses on roads to pick or drop the passengers sometimes also leads to mishaps. Large number of people working in government offices or private offices or at shops and other business establishments do not have their private transport.
They have to use the public transport to commute. Those working in city centre Lal Chowk and adjoining areas, or the students studying in the educational institutions there and not having transport facility, have to walk on foot for long to catch a bus or cab back home. They face the same problem in the morning as the public transport vehicles drop them far away from their working places.
This difficulty must be addressed. The only way to solve such problems is to add to the bus fleet and also have proper designated stops for them.
