The coronavirus scare has compelled people to avoid public places and remain indoors, leading to slowdown in business in Jammu, even as the footfall in Kashmir markets, offices and other public places has come down significantly.
Thin presence of people was seen in Jammu’s old city marketslike KanakMandi, Raghu Nath Bazaar, City Chowk, Patel Bazaar, PuraniMandi,Rajinder Bazaar, Lakhdata Bazaar, Jain Bazaar.
The shopping malls likeWave Mall, Big Bazaar, Best Price, swimming polls, Jammu Press Club and otherpopular places also remained closed in view of advisory from the districtadministration.
Government has cautionedthe people that they should avoid going to public places unless very important.
“The business is down by 60 to 70 percent,”President Jammu Heritage Society BaldevKhullar said.
Known hotelierInderjeetKhajuria told Greater Kashmir, “No one is coming to Jammu. Bookingshave been cancelled. There is scare among the people and even hotel employeesavoid each other.”
“There are around 300 hotels in municipallimits of Jammu city. All are without customers,” he said.
Footfall drops in Kashmir
In the wake of coronavirusscare, the footfall in Kashmir markets, offices and other public places hascome down significantly.
Reports from across theValley suggest that there are less public gatherings and footfall in theoffices and other busy places is coming down.
The pamphlets, a policespokesman said, containing important information / DOs and DON’Ts regardingprevention and management of Covid-19 were distributed among general public throughSHOs of Police Stations.
“The campaign will continue till end of thismonth,” Inspector General of Police, Kashmir, Vijay Kumar told Greater Kashmir.”Our men across the valley are fully involved in awareness campaign.” The IGPsaid that the police at every district have already educating its men andnecessary aid for prevention has been distributed among the cops. “We havealready issued advisory to our men.”
