Couple, 2 minor sons die in Kishtwar accident

Ramban, Mar 14: Four members of a family died and one was injured after a car, in which they were travelling, skidded off the road from Helmet Top in the Bhandharkoot area of Kishtwar on the Kishtwar-Anantnag National Highway-244 on Thursday.

Officials said, “A car, JK17-2460, went out of control of its driver in the Bhandharkoot area of Kishtwar and fell into a gorge. Four occupants, including a couple and their two children, died in the accident whereas one child was injured.”

On getting information from locals, Police and volunteers reached the spot and retrieved the bodies and injured persons from the badly mangled car and shifted them to District Hospital Kishtwar.

Police identified the deceased as Yasir Ahmad Bhat, 36, his wife Sheezada Begum, 34, and their two minor sons Aartash Yasir, 8, and Ailaf Yasir, 5, all residents of Bilward, Kishtwar.

The couple’s other minor son, identified as Aarish Yasir, 3, is battling for life at District Hospital Kishtwar.

However, officials said that the injured boy was out of danger and responding to treatment.

Yasir Ahmed Bhat was a government employee working as an ambulance driver at District Hospital Kishtwar.

SHO Kishtwar, Inspector Firdous Ahmad said, “The couple and one of their three children died on the spot while another child, Ailaf succumbed to injuries at District Hospital Kishtwar.”

He said, “Their third child, Aarish Yasir is under treatment at the District Hospital Kishtwar. The bodies of the deceased were handed over to legal heirs after conducting postmortem and other legal formalities at District Hospital Kishtwar.”

Earlier, Deputy Commissioner (DC) Kishtwar, Devansh Yadav said that a car rolled from the Helmet Top of Bhandharkoot area into a gorge, resulting in the death of four members of a family – two adults and two minors.

He said that one injured minor was responding to the treatment.
