Former legislators M Y Tarigami, Hakeem Muhammad Yaseen, Er Rasheed, Syed Muhammad Altaf Bukhari and Ghulam Hassan Mir met here on Wednesday to discuss the prevailing political scenario in the state.
In a joint statement the former legislators said that themeeting focused on the issue of delimitation, which is being reported by themedia.
The leaders felt that any such move without following thedue process can further alienate the people and would weaken the secular fabricof the state.
They urged the State and Central Governments not to vitiatethe atmosphere by such attempts which will also be in violation of theConstitution.
They said that such issues must be left to the electedgovernment of the state to discuss and decide.
The former legislators urged the people to stand togetherfor protection of the constitutional guarantees and appealed all politicalparties and members of civil society to unite for this common cause.The leaders said they want to assure the peoplethat they will not allow any design to dilute the sanctity of the stateconstitution and the aspirations of the people.
