Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Monday rejected the claim of United States President Donald Trump that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had asked him to mediate on Kashmir.
“We have seen @POTUS’s remarks to the press that he is readyto mediate, if requested by India & Pakistan, on Kashmir issue. No suchrequest has been made by PM @narendramodi to US President,” MEA spokespersonRaveesh Kumar wrote on twitter.
“It has been India’s consistent position that alloutstanding issues with Pakistan are discussed only bilaterally. Any engagementwith Pakistan would require an end to cross border terrorism. The ShimlaAgreement & the Lahore Declaration provide the basis to resolve all issuesbetween India & Pakistan bilaterally,” he said in another tweet.
