Rajnath to visit J&K tomorrow

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh is likely to undertake a day-long visit to Jammu and Kashmir on 20 July (Saturday), officials said.

They said that Singh will pay tributes at the Kargil warmemorial at Drass and inaugurate two bridge projects in Jammu.  “The Defence Minister will visit all threeregions of Kashmir, Jammu and Ladakh during the visit and review the securitysituation along the Line of Control (LoC) in the Valley and the Line of ActualControl (LAC) in Ladakh, besides hinterland operations,” the officials added.

Singh will fly from New Delhi to Srinagar on Saturday, theofficials said, adding that he will be accompanied by Army Chief GeneralBipinRawat.

The Defence Minister will later fly to Drass in Ladakh wherehe is scheduled to visit the war memorial.

From there, he is scheduled to fly to Jammu, where he willinaugurate two major bridges on the rivers Uhj and Basantar in Kathua and Sambadistricts, they said.

This is Singh’s maiden visit to Jammu after taking over  as the Defence Minister. He had earliervisited Kashmir and Ladakh regions on 3 June.In his first trip as Defence Minister, RajnathSingh had visited the Siachen glacier – the world’s highest battlefield – wherehe met the soldiers guarding the border above altitudes of 12,000 feet. Singh,accompanied by Army Chief Gen. Rawat, had also visited the headquarters of theArmy’s 14 Corps in Leh and 15 Corps in Srinagar.
