Sgr-Jmu NH open for 2-way traffic

Ramban, Mar 26:  The Srinagar-Jammu National Highway (NH 44) remained open for two-way traffic of Light Motor Vehicles (LMVs) and heavy vehicles on Tuesday.

The officials monitoring the regulation of traffic in Ramban said that the highway remained open and hundreds of LMVs and heavy vehicles crossed the Nashri-Banihal sector for their respective destinations without any disruption during the day.

“Heavy load carriers are heading towards Kashmir and Jammu in a regulated manner,” they said while giving the current NH update.

Officials said, “Traffic movement remained slow due to the breakdown of a few heavy vehicles; single road and poor (road) surface condition at Dalwass, Mehar-Cafeteria, Ramban, Panthya-Nagarkot, Shalgari, Nachlana and many other places between Nashri and Banihal.”

Meanwhile, the J&K Traffic Police Department issued a fresh advisory for Wednesday stating that subject to fair weather and road clearance, LMVs would be allowed to ply on either side of the highway.

“Heavy vehicles will be allowed to ply on the highway after assessing the road and traffic situation on Wednesday,” the traffic officials said.

However, they advised passenger vehicle operators, commuters, and people not to undertake journeys on the highway during night hours due to apprehensions of shooting stones between Ramban and Banihal.

“Prefer journey on the highway only during the day time,” they advised.
