Ramban, Nov 20: The Srinagar-Jammu National Highway was partially restored after the concerned agency NHAI prepared a single lane way at Kishtwari-Pattar area of Banihal on Monday morning.
Traffic authorities said, “The Srinagar-Jammu National Highway was partially restored at Kishtwari-Pattar in Banihal (single way) and Light Motor Vehicles were plying on both sides in a regulated manner.”
The officials monitoring the regulation of traffic at Traffic Control Units of Ramban and Udhampur this evening said, “Heavy vehicles, stopped at Udhampur, were also allowed to proceed towards Kashmir late Monday afternoon.”
The officials monitoring regulation of traffic in the Nachlana and Sherbibi area said, “The Srinagar-Jammu National Highway was open for two-way traffic however the movement of traffic was slow due to single-lane way at Kishtwari-Pattar.”
They further said vehicles were being cleared on a one-way basis at Kishtwari-Pattar in Banihal area.
Earlier, vehicular traffic on both sides of Srinagar Jammu National Highway was suspended after a portion of the road caved in and created a bottleneck at the Kishtwari-Pattar area between Ramsu and Banihal on Sunday evening.
Traffic authorities had said that the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway was closed after a portion of the road was damaged at Kishtwari-Pattar area on Sunday evening.
“The highway was closed due to road repair and restoration works,” they had stated.
An official of NHAI said, “After working all Sunday night, a single-lane safe road was prepared. Efforts are being made to make the damaged portion of the road into a double lane at Kishtwari-Pattar area.”
