Srinagar-Leh NH reopens after 5-day closure

Sonamarg, Apr 18:  The Srinagar-Leh National Highway connecting Ladakh with Jammu and Kashmir reopened on Thursday for one-way traffic movement after remaining closed for five days due to snowfall on Sunday and multiple avalanches along the stretch.

After hectic efforts, the teams of Border Roads Organisation (BRO)’s Project Vijayak and Project Beacon pressed machines for snow clearance.

However, inclement weather and fresh avalanches along the Zojila delayed the road reopening.

On Thursday, the road was connected and restored for one-way traffic movement.

An official told Greater Kashmir that the stranded vehicles including passenger vehicles and those with essential commodities were allowed to move towards Kargil from Sonamarg side on Thursday.
