Srinagar, Dec 7: Kashmir continued to reel under severe cold conditions on Thursday with Srinagar shivering at minus 2 degrees Celsius even Meteorological Department has predicted further fall in temperatures.
MeT officials said here that further drop by 1-2 degrees Celsius is expected in the next three days before some relief from the freezing cold conditions.
“Till December 10 mainly dry weather is expected in J&K,” they said. “On December 11, weather is expected to be generally cloudy. From December 12-15 weather is likely to be generally cloudy with light rain and snow at isolated higher reaches.”
The MeT officials said: “Srinagar continued to experience the season’s coldest consecutive night on Thursday, with temperatures plummeting to minus 2.6 degrees Celsius against -2 degrees Celsius recorded the previous night. It was -2.1 degrees Celsius below normal for Srinagar during this period of the season.”
The officials said that the Gulmarg ski resort in Baramulla recorded a low of minus 2.5 degrees Celsius against minus 2.6 degrees Celsius the previous night and the latest temperature was 1.2 degrees Celsius above normal at the resort in north Kashmir.
They said Pahalgam recorded a low of minus 4.9 degrees Celsius against minus 5.1 degrees Celsius the previous night and it was 1.7 degrees Celsius below normal for the famous resort in south Kashmir.
They said Kokernag, also in south Kashmir, recorded a minimum of minus 1.4 degrees Celsius against minus 0.5 degrees Celsius on the previous night and the temperature was below normal for the place by 0.7 degrees Celsius.
MeT officials said Kupwara town in north Kashmir recorded a low of minus 3.1 degrees Celsius against minus 2.7 degrees Celsius on the previous night and it was 1.3 degrees Celsius below normal there.
Qazigund recorded a minimum of minus 2.2 degrees Celsius against minus 2 degrees Celsius on the previous night, they said.
The minimum temperature was 1.4 degrees Celsius below normal for the gateway town of Kashmir.
Jammu recorded a minimum of 9.6 degrees Celsius against 9.9 degrees Celsius on previous night, and it was below normal by 0.4 degrees Celsius for the winter capital of J&K, they said.
