Kupwara area grapples with shortage of potable drinking water

Kupwara, Feb 8: The residents of Daril, Tarathpora in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district Wednesday expressed strong resentment against authorities for failing to provide them potable drinking water with the result the locals were subjected to severe hardships.

The residents said that after the old water scheme developed technical snags, authorities constructed a bore well in the area a decade ago to cope up with the water scarcity but the facility has dried up resulting in severe hardships to the inhabitants with regard to drinking water.

The residents said that under Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) a water supply scheme was approved for Daril, following which a water reservoir was constructed but the remaining work is yet to be carried out.

The residents said that they were facing tremendous hardships due to the non-availability of water but the concerned department was watching their hardships as mute spectators.

“The concerned department has miserably failed to provide water supply to over hundred households. In fact the department has taken us for a ride and is doing nothing to mitigate our problem,” the inhabitants added. The residents said that they have taken up this issue with the concerned officials numerous times but to no avail.

They have now sought immediate intervention of Deputy Commissioner Kupwara Ayushi Sudan in this regard so that the hardships being faced by them may end.
