Death of Bemina woman at SKIMS|Authorities trying to hush-up case, alleges family

Family members of a 21-year-old woman who died at SKIMS here allegedly due to blood transfusion reaction, staged protest in Press Enclave here accusing that the authorities were trying to “hush up” the case.

A resident of Bemina here, Mir Anjum passed away at theInstitute on April 4. Her family members have said soon after the transfusion,the patient’s condition deteriorated and she was taken to the Intensive CareUnit (ICU) where she was into coma for four days.

   

“A case has been already filed in Police Station, Soura. Thehospital administration is now trying to hush-up the case,” alleged Mir Asiya,sister of the deceased.

Accompanied by her family members, Asiya said her familywants justice in the case. “Those who are responsible for my sister’s deathshould be brought to the book,” she said.

Following the incident the institute had ordered an inquiry.”The committee scrutinized patient record as well as blood bank record for anymismatched or transfusion reaction…post transfusion sample of blood of patientas well as blood bag were tested. Both direct coombs test as well as indirectcoombs test were negative, no haemolysis was found in patient post transfusion,”said a statement issued by the SKISM today. “The allegations leveled by the relatives are baseless.”
