To take stock of facilities in place for Government Medical College Rajouri with main focus on inspection of makeshift campus established within existing district hospital Rajouri, a team of Medical Council of India visited Rajouri on Saturday.
This was the second visit of the team from MCI. During itsearlier visit five months ago, the team had identified several loopholes in themakeshift campus and state’s health department was asked to bring up necessaryimprovements.
Officials said a two-member team of Medical Council of Indiapaid a surprise visit to Rajouri district hospital which has been rechristenedas GMC Associated Hospital Rajouri.
During the visit, the team visited the site of GovernmentMedical College at Maira village of Rajouri where construction work of mainbuilding is going on.
The team also visited the makeshift campus established inRajouri hospital while inspection was also conducted in some private buildingswhich have been hired for setting up residential complex of students andfaculty.
Later in the evening, MCI team paid visit to severalsections of Rajouri hospital and took stock of its functioning.
Sources within health department said that officers ofRajouri hospital including medical superintendent Dr. Suresh Gupta and Dr.Mehmood Bahar briefed MCI team about all the arrangements made for startingfirst batch of GMC Rajouri from August.
The MCI team was also informed about all the changes thathave been made in the makeshift campus after some loopholes were pointed out bythe team during its visit conducted five months ago.
“We are expecting final report in next one week and thereport will decide the fate of GMC Rajouri as whether the first batch will bestarted in upcoming session or not,” a health official said.Chief medical officer Rajouri, Dr. Sunil Sharma, said it was a surprisevisit by the MCI.
