DDC Bandipora member remanded in 10-day police custody for ‘assaulting’ revenue officials

Bandipora July 5: A Bandipora court on Monday ordered ten-day police custody of a DDC member, who allegedly assaulted revenue officials last week.

The accused, Ghulam Mohiudin Rather, DDC member from Arin constituency was booked under FIR no 107/2021 under section 307, 353, 392 IPC at police station Bandipora following a complaint by the officials that Rather assaulted them when they were on duty at Kudhara village of the constituency on Saturday.

   

In the complainant, the concerned Tehsildar stated, “A team of revenue officials headed by the undersigned reached the Serender village in connection with some official and urgent work, where one person namely Ghulam Mohiuddin Rather from Arin and others assaulted the whole team, especially Tehsildar Bandipora and caught hold of his neck and tried to kill him. During the action, accused and his associates snatched and tore essential documents of Kudhara road and stole them..”

On Monday, the police moved to court in the case of the UT of J&K through police station Bandipora case FIR no 107/2021 vs Ghulam Mohiuddin Rather, where they sought that the accused be remanded to police custody for further investigation.

The Chief Judicial Magistrate Bandipora accordingly granted a 10-days custody of Rather to the police with effect from today.

“Accused is required by the IO for investigation purpose…accused is remanded to police custody for 10 days w.e.f 5-07-2021 to 14-07-2021…the investigating officer should expedite the investigation,” the CJM said in the order.

Pertinently, Rather had won the constituency as an independent candidate and later joined Apni Party.
