The driver of Director Information and Public Relations (DIPR), Syed Sehrish Asgar was wounded after the service rifle of a Sahastra Seema Bal (SSB) trooper guarding her residence in Jawahar Nagar area of Srinagar went off accidentally on Saturday, reports said.
Quoting unnamed officials, news agency KNO reported that Ghulam Nabi, the driver of DIPR, sustained a bullet wound after the rifle of SSB man posted with 10 Battalion D-Company, at J-55 government quarters at Jawahar Nagar, Srinagar went off accidentally.
“The driver was immediately removed to a hospital where he is being treated,” the official said, adding that the bullet hit the wall before injuring the driver.
The incident created panic in the area after which officials rushed to the spot. “An inquiry has been ordered. So far the condition of the driver is stated to be stable,” he said. The incident took place at a time when J&K is observing I-Day amid tight security cover.
