At least five youth were detained in an overnight raid in Nasrullahpora village of central Kashmir’s Budgam district, police said.
However, locals alleged that the police resorted to vandalism and arrested many youth during the raid, which they said created a ‘mayhem” in the village, located around four kilometres from the district headquarters.
When contacted, SSP Budgam, Amod Nagpure confirmed the arrests of five youth from the village over “stone-pelting” charges. He, however, denied any claims of damaging the public property.
Violent clashes had erupted in the village in May earlier this year, in which a police officer suffered head injuries. Some policemen were caught on camera damaging shops and houses after the clashes with the DSP and his team.
