Fruit growers, traders hail Govt for sanctioning Shopian bypass construction

Shopian, Mar 12: The move of the Centre to sanction Rs 244.44 crore for the construction of the 8.925 km long Shopian bypass was Tuesday hailed by the fruit growers and traders of the apple-rich district of Shopian.

Muhammad Ashraf Wani, a prominent apple grower and former president of Fruit Mandi Shopian said that the announcement was music to their ears.

“It is bound to make the transportation of apples and other fruits easy,” Wani said.

He said that the bypass would resolve traffic congestion and significantly reduce transportation time.

Mubashir Ahmad Bhat, another fruit grower from the district said the move would prove to be a shot in the arm for the horticulture sector.

“The drupes with short shelf-life will reach outstation mandis well on time once the bypass is constructed,” he said.
