Srinagar June 8: Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha on Tuesday virtually flagged off a maiden consignment of 15,000 liquid Nano-Urea bottles from Kalol area of Gujarat for farmers in Jammu and Kashmir saying the newest form of the chemical would “bring a new revolution in the farming sector” in the UT.
In a series of tweets this evening, LG Sinha said on his official Twitter handle that the 15,000 bottles of liquid Nano-Urea- 7500 bottles each to be distributed to both divisions of J&K- “will be equivalent to about 675 metric tonnes of conventional urea”.
The LG said that the innovative form of the fertilizer “will enhance crop yield while maintaining soil quality & protecting environment”.
“Taking a giant leap in agriculture sector & adopting environment friendly farming practices across the UT, today flagged off first consignment of IFFCO’s Nano Urea (Liquid) from Kalol area of Gujarat virtually.

The LG thanked Prime Minister, Narendra Modi for encouraging agricultural scientists and farmers to reduce the use of conventional urea.

LG Sinha stated the J&K administration is taking “reformative measures towards sustainable development of agriculture, horticulture sectors” saying 60,000 hectares of Basmati agricultural land was being converted into “more productive one”.

He further said that the J&K government will machinery worth Rs 65 crore to 30,000 farmers; Modern irrigation facilities to 25,000 farmers at a cost of Rs 91 crore.
Besides, “state-of-the-art training costing Rs 26 crore to be imparted to around 35,000 farmers for implementing new experiments in agriculture, ” the LG said.
