Hundreds of people including women today participated in the funeral of a youth Arif Sofi who was shot dead by unidentified gunmen here on Wednesday evening at Sopore.
Shouting pro-freedom slogans, the mourners carried the body in a procession. The funeral prayers (Nimaz-e-Jinaza) of the slain youth was offered at a local ground at Unsoo village here. He was laid to rest amid pro-freedom slogans. Later, people staged protest against the killing.
Arif was a salesman at pharmaceutical agency. He is survived by three sisters and two brothers. Besides his physically challenged father is local head of People’s League.
“The gunmen shot him from point blank range”, officials said. Arif was shifted to nearby hospital where doctors declared him brought dead.
