Srinagar, Jun 12: The explosive recovered by BSF in Handwara was not an IED but an old mortar shell, police said.
“An information was generated wherein a Road Opening Party of BSF said it recovered an ‘IED’ in general area of Bhatpura village near a culvert”, said a police official, as reported by GNS. “However on close assessment, the recovered ammunition turned out to be an old mortar shell.”
“The recovered shell may have been lying at the site for quite some time, ” the official further said.
