In Ganderbal, 5 women win DDC polls, vow to work for women empowerment

Five women candidates in Ganderbal district emerged winners in the District Development Council (DDC) polls with huge margins.

In Ganderbal, of the 14 DDC constituencies, five had been reserved for women.

   

Nuzhat Ishfaq, who was the Peoples’ Alliance for Gupkar Declaration (PAGD) candidate from National Conference (NC) won from Lar-B by a margin of 1557 votes. Her closest rival Zaitoona Bano, an independent candidate got 1332 votes. Nuzhat is wife of NC leader and former MLA Ganderbal Sheikh Ashfaq Jabbar.

In Gund-A DDC constituency, PAGD candidate from NC Hakeema Bano won by a margin of 1102 votes. Her closest rival Tasleema, an independent candidate got 840 votes.

Similarly, in Kangan- A, PAGD candidate from PDP Tasneema Adil won by a margin of 1060 votes while her closest opponent Ruheena Shehzad, an independent candidate got 584 votes. In Wakura-A, Zahida Hamid, a PAGD candidate from NC won by a margin of 339 votes. Zahida got 1065 votes while her closest opponent Farida Bano got 626 votes.

In Ganderbal-A, Rozi Jan won by 102 votes getting 706 votes while her closest opponent got 604 votes.

The newly-elected DDC candidates said that they would try to come up to the expectations of the people who had shown faith in them and gave them a chance to serve.

They also vowed to work for women empowerment and development of their respective areas.
