The term-II exams of students of class 5 to class 9 concluded on Thursday across Kashmir.
An official said the examswere conducted in the government-run schools under the supervision of Stateinstitute of Education (SIE). “The exams were held smoothly in all the schoolswith proper arrangements for the students,” said Principal SIE, MehboobHussain.
He said the SIE preparedhome based assignments for students of lower classes and were distributed amongthem through heads of the institutions.
“Once the assignments weresuccessfully distributed among students we were able to take decision onholding term-II exams,” Hussain said.
The exams for lower classeswere held despite no class work in the schools across Kashmir. The educationalinstitutions in Kashmir were closed on August 5, the day the government ofIndia announced its decision to abrogate Article 370 of Constitution.
The high schools remainedclosed from August 5 to September 2 while as the higher secondary schoolsreopened on October 3. The primary schools were closed on August 5 and startedfunctioning again from August 19 while as middle schools resumed functioningfrom August 26.
The administration haddecided to reopen schools in a phased manner. But only teachers reported totheir respective schools.
“We were able to heldterm-II exams as the term first and Unit 3rd exams in most of the schools werealready completed by July end. Despite having less number of working days inschools, the department decided to conduct the exams,” the official said.
The official said thedecision about new academic session in government schools will be taken afterdeliberations in the department.
