Police on Friday said that a mentally challenged man was shot at and injured when he tried to jump security barricades at Awantipora airbase in south Kashmir.
While talking to Greater Kashmir Senior Superintendent of Police Chandan Kohli said, “Soldiers at the airbase asked an intruder to stop but he evaded the signal following which security forces personnel fired aerial shots to warn him. But he kept on jumping the barricades which forced the soldiers to open fire. The intruder received bullet injuries below waistline.”
Police later identified “the intruder” as mentally challenged Bashir Ahmad of Yaripora in Kulgam district. He is undergoing treatment at SKIMS Soura.
